Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is a deep-dive training program that trains participants to a full Green Belt level in the combined methodology of Lean Six Sigma and is intended for those that will lead improvement projects, working with and supporting functional managers throughout the organization.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt is a deep-dive training program that trains participants to a full Green Belt level in a balanced approach to the methodologies of Lean and Six Sigma.
Participants receive complete and comprehensive exposure to the DMAIC methodology and associated tools to an extent that will enable them to lead small- to medium-scope improvement projects in their companies.
Lean Six Sigma Green Belt training is intended for those that will lead improvement projects, working with and supporting functional managers (process owners) throughout the organization. Green Belts are typically ~50% dedicated to improvement project work, and are often supported themselves by colleagues trained to the Yellow Belt level.
The GO Productivity method
Green Belt training consists of two week-long classroom sessions over a period of three months. Training weeks are either 4 or 4.5 days and constitute over 60 hours of instruction.
Outside the classroom training, participants receive direct coaching on the in-company applied project they bring to the course. Following the successful completion of the classroom component (including exams), students are expected to complete two more projects in order to achieve full certification.
The program has a high instructor-to-student ratio to ensure that all students are receiving individual attention. Delivery typically takes place at GO Productivity’s office Edmonton, but alternate locations and arrangements are available and can be accommodated. Please call us for a chat.
Applied Learning: Live Projects
GO Productivity requires Green Belt participants to undertake a live project in their workplace to work through the DMAIC process and demonstrate proficiency with the tools and concepts provided in the course. The project is led by the participant who is coached by GO Productivity’s Master Black Belt instructors. Participants must demonstrate their company’s commitment to supporting their project prior to attending the course.
Participants will meet with a GO Productivity instructor prior to attending the course to identify and scope a suitable project. Ideal projects for Green Belt training are in a familiar functional area, have support from leadership, and foreseeably yield measurable savings.
Projects of previous Green Belt participants have typically yielded upwards of $50,000 in annual benefits and often achieve $200,000 or more in annual benefits. The amount of savings achieved with each project will depend on size and scope, but should demonstrate some measurable benefit greater than the initial investment.
Your GO Productivity instructor will work with your team to ensure your project is appropriate for the course.
Added value for participants
Participants are provided soft copy (electronic) templates of 25 Lean Six Sigma tools covered in the course, such as the Project Charter, Failure Mode & Effects Analysis (FMEA), Cause and Effect (C&E) Matrix, and Process Management Chart.
Participants also receive a hard- and soft copy of the in-depth training manual used in the classroom session.
These takeaway materials are provided to equip participants with the resources they need to contribute to a DMAIC project upon returning to the workplace.
GO Productivity also comes alongside as you work your in-program Green Belt project and the subsequent projects required for certification, giving you access to experienced and knowledgeable coaching and mentoring from our Master Black Belts

- The sponsoring organization/company develops internal capacity to support their productivity improvement initiatives.
- In addition to learning the concepts in the classroom, participants are required to apply them at their workplace as they work through their Green Belt project. During the in-class training weeks, participants present updates on their projects to their peers and the instructors.
- The sponsoring organization accesses ongoing coaching and mentoring for the participant through the completion of the project and additional support during subsequent projects which are required to fulfill the certification requirements.

- Successful completion of the course is awarded on the passing grade of 70% or higher.

Scott is a Professional Engineer, with a PhD in Optical Sciences and an MBA in Management of Technology. He holds his Six Sigma Green Belt Certification and Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt.

Kevin’s diverse background includes ten years in the downstream petroleum industry where he led improvement projects in a variety of back office and customer facing areas. He received his MBA in Organizational Leadership at Royal Roads University and has taken a range of training in Six Sigma and Business Process Improvement including his Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt from Smarter Solutions in Austin, Texas.
As Director, Alberta South, Kevin supports the delivery of GO Productivity’s suite of programs to its client organizations. This includes project implementation, workshop facilitation, and various speaking engagements. Kevin has facilitated improvement projects in many sectors, including construction, manufacturing, non-for-profit, and healthcare.
