We were pleased to welcome Minister and Deputy Premier Sarah Hoffman to our offices on Friday July 20th. Go Productivity offices are in Minister Hoffman’s constituency and came by to meet with our summer students Bo Sang and Tyler Schmidt hired through the Government of Alberta STEP program.
The Summer Temporary Employment Program (STEP) provides funding to eligible Alberta employers to hire high school or post-secondary students into summer jobs from May to August. Summer positions created through STEP provide students with the opportunity to build meaningful work experience, increase their skills, gain workplace insight and help prepare them for the future.
Through the STEP program Bo and Tyler were able to work with GO for the summer to not only learn from other GO staff, but to bring value to the workplace day in and day out.
“Working at GO Productivity, has been not only an amazing experience, but a tremendous learning opportunity. GO Productivity, is a small and growing firm, and has presented me with many opportunities to get involved with every aspect of the organization. As a student, you often do not learn about all the nuances of small businesses and the realities of different industries. The opportunity to meet with small business owners and learning about their operations has taught me an incredible amount. In addition, working at GO Productivity has given me the opportunity to not only grow my technical skills, but as a person. I have gained experience in client meetings, delivery of our advisory services, working on company assessments, analyzing business operations, and so much more. I’ve not only learnt new tricks on Excel and PowerPoint, but also how to communicate, approach critical thinking, and establishing interpersonal connections. I am extremely grateful to have been given the opportunity to work at GO Productivity, and it has been a truly enriching experience.” – Bo Sang, University of Alberta 3rd year Bachelor of Commerce Program
“I’ve worked for GO Productivity for the past few summers and each one has been such a wonderful learning experience. Working with and learning from both Ken Chapman, our Executive in Residence and Pam Thompson, our Relationship Manager/Marketing and Communications, has been so rewarding for me personally and professionally. They are 100% dedicated to my learning and growth and they allow me to really pursue things I am passionate about. In the past I had helped a lot with the marketing and event planning for our 2 golf tournaments in 2015 and 2016. This included publishing newsletters, blog posts, LinkedIn/Facebook posts and other promotional materials. I also edited together a video for the event and helped with the setup and takedown of both tournaments. In 2017 I did a lot of the brainstorming for our summer client BBQ event and worked to establish and fall within a budget for the event. This year I have had the pleasure of interviewing David Janzen, CFO of Fountain Tire, as well as devote a lot of my time to various video projects with all the GO Staff and our videographer. I’ve learned so much from my time at GO Productivity. It’s been so beneficial to have such a great team around me, so I could start developing and using the skills that will be useful for years to come.” – Tyler Schmidt, MacEwan University 2nd year Bachelor of Commerce Program
